Small amplitude modelling of acoustic damping cavities

چکیده
We will first recall the classical results for the laminar dissipation of acoustic energy in the boundary layer of a forced resonator. We then show how this result can be used in conjunction with a Helmholtz solver to calculate the laminar damping of a cavity of arbitrary geometry. The approach is validated by application to a trivial geometry for which the result is known analytically (HF1 step 1). We then present the results for the remaining test cases (HF1 steps 2, 3 and 4). The computational effort is lightweight, ranging from a few seconds of cpu time for step one to a few minutes for the 3-D case, step 4. These test cases are nonreacting, but the approach can be extended to accommodate strong temperature variations, provided the temperature and density fields are known. Finally we discuss the limitations of this approach and possible reasons for differences between these calculations, full DNS calculations, and experimental measurements on real chambers.

Effect of porosity on the characteristics of underwater acoustic sound absorbers using theoretical models
Porous materials have good acoustic damping characteristics over a wide frequency range. As for sound waves, many small-scale pores in the coating materials can convert underwater-coating to rough surfaces. The main property of porous absorbents is their resistance against incident sound wave that leads to damping effect. From a physical point of view, damping occurs due to friction between flu...
متن کاملThe sound-damping characteristics of the vocal tract cavities
The spectral and modal properties of the vocal tract are important acoustic characteristics since they take part in generating the formants of individual vowels. The positions of vowel formants on the spectrum frequency axis are mainly determined by the parameters and properties of the vocal tract : its size and geometry, boundary conditions ( opening mouth and glottis, closing ) and absorption...
متن کاملVelopharyngeal insufficiency studied using finite-element models of male vocal tract with experimental verification
Finite element (FE) models of acoustic spaces corresponding to the human nasal and vocal tract for vowel /a/ are used for numerical simulations. Simplified FE model of the vocal tract for English vowel was created from geometrical data published in literature and for the Czech vowel by transferring data directly from MRI images. The nasal cavities were added to the models manually according to ...
متن کاملInteraction of Acoustic Disturbances with Micro-Cavities for Ultrasonic Absorptive Coatings
Numerical simulations are performed to investigate the interaction of acoustic waves with an array of equally-spaced two-dimensional micro-cavities on an otherwise flat plate without external boundary-layer flow. This acoustic scattering problem is important in the design of ultrasonic absorptive coatings (UAC) for hypersonic laminar flow control. The reflection coefficient, characterizing the ...
متن کاملطول میرایی امواج مغناطوآکوستیک آرام مشاهده شده در حلقههای تاج با استفاده ازتلسکوپ اس- دی- او
Slow magneto-acoustic waves are often observed in polar plumes and active region fan loops. The observed periodicities of these waves are in the range of 1- 40 minutes. Mainly, the ratio of damping time to the oscillation period is less than 2 (equal to the ratio damping length to the wave length), which corresponds to the strong damping regime. In general, slow magneto-acoustic waves can be da...
